Zero eyebrows being raised here in the studio as we learn of another game extending into the consumer products world. Having been involved in gaming for years now we’re huge advocates of the role that licensing can play for games and the traction they can get at retail if the execution is good enough.

Moose Toys are set to launch Disney Crossy Road merchandise. The frogger-style mobile game, created gaming studio Hipster Whale has been downloaded over 31 million times! Its huge traction and addictive gameplay style has proven hugely popular and they’ve been quick to act on this traction with the production of merchandise.

The collection that will include micro figures, backpack hangars and plush is set to launch at retail on April 1 this year and will feature popular characters from the Disney and Pixar worlds. Characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Buss Lightyear and Simba.

Here at PowerStation Studios we really believe that we’re witnessing a big tipping point for gaming within the industry. Retail and licensees are beginning to better understand the numbers and the jaw-dropping affinity that players have for games.
