This week, gamescom 2017 officially kicks off – bringing with it the assemblage of thousands of passionate gamers together in one action-packed event. Dubbed as ‘the heart of gaming’, gamescom is the leading European trade fair for digital gaming culture and acts as a meeting point for global companies from the entertainment industry and the international gaming community. gamescom started in 2009 and is held every year at the Koelnmesse convention centre in Cologne, Germany. After an initial day dedicated to press and trade (Tuesday, 22nd August), gamescom officially opens its doors to the general public throughout the week, finishing on Saturday 26th August.

All of the big developers and publishers from across the interactive entertainment industry use this opportunity to showcase their plethora of upcoming titles – feeding the community with new exciting information on their favourite games. With hands-on demonstrations and press conferences depicting the future landscape of gaming, gamescom is not an event to be missed.

Gamescom 2017: What you should look out for

So whether you’re travelling down to Cologne this year or just keeping an eye on the latest games news online, we’ve compiled a list of titles we think you should watch out for and avoid missing out on the latest gaming news that matters to you.

Today (and formally starting off gamescom 2017), the bigger companies will be holding their press conferences to make their key announcements. Although the number of pre-show press conferences has shrunk in the last few years, you can still expect to see conferences from the likes of EA games (Monday, 17:30BST), Nvidia, Xbox, Nintendo (Wed 14pm BST & Thurs 11am BST) and Blizzard. Although rumours initially suggested a possible gamescom return for Sony, they aren’t holding a press conference this year – instead, they’re focusing their presence on exhibiting their games through their consumer stand, direct to fans. gamescom marks a pivotal marketing milestone within the game industry’s calendar and is neatly set in between June’s E3 and November’s Paris Games Week. Thanks to this, you can be sure that there’ll be plenty of thrills and exciting gaming information heading your way.

No matter which platform you play on, this week is going to be jam-packed full of videogaming goodness. Which game are you most excited about? be sure to let us know in the comments below!
